About Rickeston Mill

A specialist dementia nursing home where every resident is known, valued and cared for as family.

Our Story

Rickeston Mill Nursing Home is nestled in the peaceful Pembrokeshire countryside, approximately four miles from Milford Haven on the Dale road just beyond Herbrandston.

We are an established, cosy home accommodating up to 28 residents, focusing exclusively on nursing dementia care. Unlike many care homes that accept a range of residents, we have chosen to specialise entirely in dementia — because we believe people living with this condition deserve dedicated, expert care in an environment designed specifically for their needs.

Our home is well-appointed with spacious bedrooms, plentiful communal areas and attractive gardens where residents can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Everything we do is shaped by a single ethos: every resident should feel warm, safe, secure and comfortable.

Our Care Ethos

We believe dementia care is not simply about meeting physical needs — it is about preserving identity, dignity and joy.

Person-Centred Care

Every resident has an individualised care plan built around their history, preferences and personality — not a one-size-fits-all routine.

Family-Like Environment

With only 28 residents, our home is deliberately small. Our team knows every resident by name, by preference and by the stories that make them who they are.

Dignity & Respect

Dementia does not diminish a person's value. We champion dignity in every interaction — from personal care to mealtime choices to daily routines.

What Sets Us Apart

We are not a general care home that also accepts dementia residents. We are a specialist dementia nursing home.

Every member of our team, every room, every activity and every routine is designed specifically for people living with dementia. This singular focus means our staff develop deep expertise, our environment is purposefully adapted, and our families can trust that their loved one is receiving the most appropriate care available.

Our specialist pathways cover the full spectrum of dementia care — from nursing dementia support to complex behavioural management to compassionate palliative care. We work closely with NHS community teams, GPs and specialist consultants to ensure seamless, joined-up healthcare for every resident.

As a family-owned home, decisions are made by people who care deeply — not by a corporate board. Our owner, Surya, is hands-on and accessible, and our leadership team has a genuine personal stake in the quality of care we deliver.

Our Commitment to Quality

Regulation is a baseline, not a finish line. We hold ourselves to a higher standard every day.

Alongside our external inspections, we run regular internal audits, staff training and quality reviews — covering safeguarding, medication management, infection control and person-centred dementia care. Where we can improve, we act.

If you would like to discuss our inspection history, ratings or quality processes, we welcome the conversation — openly and honestly.
