Life at Rickeston Mill

Every day is shaped around our residents — their preferences, their routines, their enjoyment.

A Day at Rickeston Mill

There is no rigid timetable here. Every day is shaped around our residents' preferences and routines — not ours.

Mornings begin gently. Residents wake in their own time and enjoy breakfast at a pace that suits them. Some prefer a quiet cup of tea in their room; others enjoy the sociable atmosphere of the dining room. Our staff know these preferences and respect them.

Throughout the day, there are opportunities to engage in activities, enjoy the gardens, socialise in communal areas or simply relax. After a home-cooked lunch, the afternoon might include music, crafts, a visiting entertainer or a walk in the grounds.

Evenings are calm and comfortable. Residents settle into their own routines — a favourite TV programme, a warm drink, a chat with staff. Our night team provides quiet, reassuring care throughout the hours of darkness.

Residents enjoying a home-cooked meal together

Home-Cooked Meals

Mealtimes are one of the most important parts of each day. Our kitchen team prepares wholesome, home-cooked meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

We understand that dementia can affect appetite, eating habits and food preferences. Our team works closely with each resident to ensure meals are enjoyable, nutritious and presented in a way that supports independent eating for as long as possible.

We cater for all dietary requirements, cultural preferences and texture modifications — including pureed and soft food diets prepared with care and presented appetisingly.

Snacks, drinks and light refreshments are available throughout the day. We never rush mealtimes — they are social occasions as much as they are about nutrition.
